Proton. It was, in the early 1990s, the Dacia of its day: taking on the big boys with value-busting cheap and cheerful cars.
Today, it’s not particularly cheap and anything but cheerful. £7,995 Proton Savvy, or a base Skoda Citigo and change for a meal with the family? Exactly.
And now, it seems Proton UK may not actually exist at all. We are updating listings for a guide we’re producing here at MR, and made our usual checks across the city car sector. Proton? Worryingly, it seems the website domain has not been renewed…
… and calls to our contact there are ringing out unanswered. No reply to the email we’ve sent, either.
Which begs the question – what’s happened to Proton UK? Do you know?
Professional car companies don’t as a rule tend to let their domains lapse (not least because there’s a whole load of associated customer service commitment associated with them). It’s this that’s got us wondering…
When we hear more, we’ll let you know. Unless you know anything in the meantime and can tell us… is Proton UK still out there?
