New Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will be a used car star

The new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SUV has received an early boost from the UK automotive industry after data experts CAP HPI awarded it a glowing set of predicted retained values.

But if you’re buying a new car, what’s the big deal about how much it’s worth a few years down the line? Well, the more a car is worth, the less you have to finance on a PCP scheme – meaning deals can be sharper and monthly payments lower.

Duly placing it “amongst the very best in its segment”, the new compact crossover SUV will, in Eclipse Cross 2 guise, retained up to 48.1 percent of its new list price after three years and 60,000 miles. Even the range-topping Eclipse Cross 4 will hold onto 46.9 percent of its new cost.

Mitsubishi says this is one of the best results of any car it’s ever sold in the UK. And when your back catalogue includes the fabled Mitsubishi Evo line, that’s significant news indeed for car buyers.

Mitsubishi Motors UK MD Lance Bradley said: “With the addition of the Eclipse Cross to our range, we are able to offer our customers even more choice, providing them with a very attractive package that not only features a comprehensive specification that combines convenience and safety, but is also highly affordable.”

Prices for the new Eclipse Cross start from £21,275, with all models including touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear-view parking camera, climate control and a forward collision mitigation system. The petrol-powered four-wheel drive automatic version is, at £25,350, the cheapest such vehicle in the compact SUV sector, reckons the firm.

As it’s duly expecting strong interest in the new model ahead of its January 2018 launch, it’s even opened up a special Eclipse Cross reservations page on its website, for those keen to get one of the very first off the boat.

The only thing we don’t yet know is exactly how keen those PCP offers are set to be – but as Mitsubishi sales have declined almost 14 percent so far this year, you can assume they’ll be keen as dealers look to start off 2018 on a more positive note. As soon as we hear more, we’ll let you know.
