Toyota will reveal a new Prius model at the 2016 New York Motor Show – a model hotly tipped to be the much-anticipated new Prius plug-in hybrid.
The firm is saying nothing right now, only issuing a teaser image and a note that it will “reveal stand-out style and intelligent eco-technology at the New York Auto Show”.
Described as the next development of the Prius line, a plug-in version would indeed be the logical next step for the firm, which has recently rolled out an all-new Prius based upon a flexible platform ready to take larger plug-in batteries.
The teaser image suggests the new model may have an enhanced aero-tuned rear end, both for more stand-out style than the more mainstream regular Prius, but also to reduce drag and further improve its fuel economy.
Toyota will be keen to take on the challenge of the impressive new Chevrolet Volt on home turf and a Prius plug-in would see it belatedly respond to the extended EV range of GM’s clever range-extender car, now on its second generation.
The firm will reveal the mysterious new Prius model early on the opening press day of NYIAS 2016: Motoring Research will be there to bring you all the news.
