Mercedes-Benz has confirmed it is to give the new GLC Coupe its world debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show this week. The what? The Mercedes-Benz rival to the BMW X4, that’s what.
The German brand has confirmed the news in a teaser video, showing a disguised GLC Coupe with the rear covered in spiral camouflage wrap.
Despite this, the new model’s rakish, coupe-like rear end is clear; it follows a BMW X4-like approach of taking the regular GLC and sculpting a sleeker rear, rather than creating a totally bespoke model from scratch.
We’ll have to wait until New York to learn more about the mechanical spec, but it wouldn’t be a rocket science assumption to guess it’ll be similar to the GLC: in the UK, that’s sold in GLC 220d and GLC 250d guise, with a sporty Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 set to also debut at NYIAS.
The appearance of the GLC Coupe adds to a big show for Mercedes-Benz’ mid-size SUV; the GLC is also a front-runner in the 2016 World Car Awards. Indeed, we reckon it’s the hot favourite to be voted World Car of the Year 2016…
