Ford has never sold an RS-branded car in North America – but will put that right at next week’s 2015 New York Motor Show.
There, the 320hp Focus RS will make its U.S. debut, in an all-new signature called Nitrous Blue that Ford’s saved for its home show.
The Focus RS is sold in one of four colours but the car was originally shown in the same crisp blue as the Ford GT supercar. The reasons why are now clear: Ford wanted to give American car fans a treat.
The four-coat Nitrous Blue paint is a metallic finish and is set to now feature in all promotional and advertising material ahead of the car’s European launch in early 2016.
Other colour choices include black, grey and white.
“This is the ultimate Focus – stunning to look at and entirely fit for purpose,” said Joel Piaskowski, director of design at Ford of Europe.
“RS models have always been striking, high-performance cars where function is paramount. This new Focus RS is true to that heritage.”
‘Customers begged; Ford’s delivered’
Ford has also again confirmed its plans to bring 12 new performance cars to market by 2020 in what it’s calling “a new era of Ford Performance”.
And because Ford now develops cars for global markets, it means U.S. buyers are going to be getting them all. “Customers have begged for the Focus RS to come to the United States for years,” said Raj Nair, group vice president, Global Product Development at Ford.
“And now we can say that they are getting one of the most innovative, powerful and best-looking RS cars ever. That is special.
