Range Rover Sport HST to debut in New York

Range Rover Sport HSTLand Rover will reveal the new Range Rover Sport HST at the 2015 New York Motor Show – using the supercharged V6 engine from the Jaguar F-Type S sports car.

The 380hp Range Rover Sport HST will sit below the Range Rover Sport Supercharged and new Range Rover Sport SVR, offering high-performance looks without the price and performance excess of the V8 models.

Visually distinctive, it gets a ‘black line’ styling pack as standard, with darkened front and rear lamps, Santorini Black roof and satin grey 21-inch alloys. All the vents are finished in black too, and there are beefy new lower door panel sculptings.

HST badges are added to the front wing grilles, and the ‘Sport’ badge at the rear is red.

The interior is similarly black-themed, with Ebony door trims and a dark headlining: as with exterior paint colours, Oxford leather seats can be had in something suitably bright if this is a bit too much.

Mechanical changes include more focused chassis settings to harness the extra potency of the F-Type V6 S engine, and it comes with a single speed transfer case using a Torsen centre differential: Land Rover doesn’t expect many owners to take this all that far off road.

British buyers shouldn’t get too excited, though – the HST is not coming to the UK, which is why it’s making its debut in North America.

Diesel for U.S.

One car we do get that those in the U.S. don’t is the 254hp 3.0-litre Td6. Not any more: it will be added to the range and make its North American debut in New York, as part of the 2016 model range update.

Other enhancements for American buyers include the addition of Land Rover InControl Remote, a hands-free tailgate and more personalisation options and accesories.

Prices of the 2016 Range Rover Sport North America range, including the new HST, will be announced later in 2015.
