Mercedes-AMG has revealed the interior of its all-new GT sportscar, which is set to be fully revealed in public in autumn 2014 at the Paris Motor Show.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT will replace the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, currently on runout.
And the firm is already promising the new sports car will thrill with “breathtaking design and supreme agility”.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT will be a reposition for AMG, away from high-end supercars and into the premium sports car sector populated by the Porsche 911. This move is underlined by a name-change to Mercedes-AMG: Affalterbach is now officially part of the GT’s title.
Mercedes-AMG GmbH Tobias Moers says it will see AMG being positioned “more vehemently and aggressively than to date as a dynamic sports car brand”.
The firm is going to become much more sporting in its focus with both driving dynamics and agility placed high on the agenda.
It was also confirmed the Mercedes-AMG GT, the second model to be fully developed by Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach, will pack an AMG V8 engine. Judging by a button pictured on the new interior, it is to get engine stop-start as standard.
Mercedes-AMG GT interior: in detail
Mercedes-AMG says the new interior follows an aviation theme that emphasises width. There are a total of six circular air vents within a dashboard that creates “an impression of a powerful wing”.
There are some lovely details: The controls for the AMG DRIVE UNIT are positioned like the cylinders in a V8…
… While the shape of the centre console itself looks a bit like a motorsport NACA duct.
A sliding blind suggests the Mercedes-AMG GT will have a panoramic roof option…
… And does that swoopy door mirror base – the only exterior part of the car we can actually see – hint at some F1-inspired design for the new GT car?
One thing’s certain: it will sound the part. Yes, that is a sports exhaust button…
