Long-time BMW UK man Graeme Grieve is to replace Tim Abbott as managing director of BMW Group UK and Ireland, the firm has announced.
Effective 1 October 2014, Grieve moves from BMW’s Munich HQ where he currently leads the BMW Group Importer business. He went there in 2009, after several years at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars as global sales and marketing director.
Prior to that, 53-year-old Grieve was sales director of BMW UK, a position he took up in 2001 as he moved up the British BMW ladder; he joined the firm in 1990.
Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for BMW sales and marketing, said: “Graeme’s breadth of experience across the company has proved to be a great asset in his current position and provides an excellent foundation for his leadership of BMW Group UK.”
Motorsport and motorcycling enthusiast Grieve (who’s married with two children) is, naturally, delighted. “While the current business environment remains dynamic, our strong brands and outstanding range of cars and motorcycles provides many opportunities.
“My role will be to give clear leadership and direction to the company and to continue our strong partnership with our dealer network to meet the challenges which lie ahead.”
And Abbott? He’s off to BMW Group South Africa, where he’ll work as MD leading 4500 people in the BMW Plant Rosslyn manufacturing site, its national sales company and BMW Financial Services.
