Mazda is revealing its all-new Mazda family five-door hatchback and four-door saloon at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show from 28 November, the firm has today announced.
Described as being the first in an all-new generation of Mazdas, the new Mazda3 is promised to serve up “new dimensions of driving pleasure”. Given how well today’s Mazdas already drive, this is promising indeed.
It’ll achieve this through the use of next-generation ‘Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture’ underpinnings, which apparently will help people “make the most of their natural sense of balance”, whatever that means.
We’re also secretly crossing our fingers here at Motoring Research that Mazda drops in the revvy new 2.0-litre engine first seen in the 2018 Mazda MX-5… with an expected cut in weight of the new car, this could be quite the entertaining warm hatch.
It’s the styling that we’ll get a first taste of at LA though. Billed as being a “more mature interpretation of Kodo design”, the new Mazda3 will likely be less ‘busy’ than today’s car, with particular attention paid to how light plays across the surfaces – this was something former chief designer Kevin Rice, under whose watch this car has been developed, was particularly keen to develop in future Mazdas.
Come back to Motoring Research later in the month to see more of the new Mazda3 live from the 2018 LA Auto Show – plus all the other stars of the show that will be on display.
