Volvo XC40

Motoring Research week in review: 26 November 2017

Volvo XC40

Jaguar must feel slightly annoyed at the new E-Pace compact SUV not even having five minutes to get its feet under the table, before a new challenger shows up. However, that is exactly what Volvo has done with the new XC40, subtly sweeping in with Scandi-cool to throw shade onto the baby Jag. It’s worth recalling that at one time both brands fell under the control of Ford’s Premier Automotive Group, before drifting off on their own separate paths away from the Blue Oval.

The limelight is now firmly on Volvo, with the backing of Geely turning the Swedish company into a trendsetting luxury brand. You can read Andrew’s first drive review of the new XC40 here, and find out whether it really is good enough to be class best.

This week we’ve also tested a new estate car that questions whether an SUV really is a necessity, got our first look at the dramatic new Aston Martin Vantage, and continued to bring you all the latest classic news with Retro MR.
