Production of the first-ever MINI 5-door begins today at MINI Plant Oxford as the firm builds up stocks for the new supermini’s autumn market launch.
Boasting five seats as well as five doors, the new MINI variant “opens up a whole new market segment for the brand,” said MINI Plants Oxford and Swindon MD Frank Bachmann.
“This is an exciting day for us.”

Business secretary Vince Cable sounds equally excited: “The launch of the all-new 5-door MINI is a further boost for the UK’s manufacturing sector, and will help to secure jobs in Oxford and Swindon.
“BMW’s continued commitment and investment in the UK underlines the continuing success story that is UK automotive manufacturing.”
The new 5-door MINI is another product of BMW’s £750 million manufacturing investment programme in the UK that’s running between 2011-2015. It’s the second car build on the flexible UKL platform, whose body manufacturing processes allow both much more variation and much more efficiency when doing so.
The firm will now roll out MINI 5-door models apace to ensure there’s plenty of stock in the network for the autumn launch. Want to make sure you’re one of the first in line to own the Ford Fiesta-rivalling MINI 5-door superminis? Best register your interest quickly…
