Mercedes-Benz uncovers Concept Coupe SUV ‘MLC’ in surprise reveal

Mercedes Concept Coupe SUVMercedes-Benz has surprised attendees of the Daimler Annual Shareholders’ Meeting by uncovering the Concept Coupe SUV that will be its star attraction at the Beijing Motor Show later this month.

Daimler AG Chairman Dr. Dieter Zetsche pulled the covers off – and confirmed it “provides a realistic glimpse of a series production vehicle expected next year”.

Rumoured to be called Mercedes-Benz MLC, it will be the firm’s answer to the BMW X6.

Mercedes underlined this by today revealing the model will boast “very dynamic handling”.

“With the Concept Coupé SUV we aim to secure new customers by opening up new segments for Mercedes-Benz”, said Dr. Zetsche.

“We see a great deal of potential for Mercedes-Benz in the combination of coupé and SUV. We will be officially unveiling the Concept Coupé SUV in just under two weeks at the Beijing Auto Show.”

We’ll get more details – and a fuller set of images – then. In the meantime, share your thoughts with us: does the world need another BMW X6, or could this be just the thing to take on the Range Rover Sport and Porsche Cayenne?

Oh, and as for the shareholders, the reveal of the Coupe Concept SUV wasn’t the only reason they were happy: Daimler also announced record sales, revenue and net profit. 2013 profits rose a glowing 28% to €8.7 billion…
