Renault has revealed a new Megane Renaultsport 275 Trophy special edition, a car that boasts a standard specification rather more specialised than many hot hatches…
… Has Renault thus launched what will soon be confirmed as the new Nurburgring Nordschliefe front-wheel drive lap record holder?
Look beyond the garish side stickers and there are some telling additions to the spec sheet – far beyond the 10hp boost in power and Akrapovic titanium exhaust.
The Megane Renaultsport offers, significantly, an optional set of Ohlins Road & Track dampers, plus bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. When added to the standard Cup chassis and limited-slip differential, this creates a car that sounds perfect for challenging lap time records – particularly as those Ohlins dampers are adjustable (just what you need for Nordschleife-honing, you’d think…).
Renault has confirmed it will launch the new Megane Renaultsport Trophy 275 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June – it’ll announce prices then too, prior to the model going on sale in October.
But will it also have a new Nurburgring Nordschleife lap record to reveal too? The much-publicised hashtag #UNDER8 is expected to reveal more on 16 June…
Here’s a reminder of Renault’s last lap time record, before SEAT controversially claimed it.
