Following the new Elise 20th Anniversary and costing £56,900, the new Club Racer variant is a more track-focused variant that’s both lighter and faster than the £54,500 Exige S it’s based upon.
Detail changes save 15kg and take the kerbweight down to 1,161kg: they include lightweight battery, body-colour lightweight centre console, lightweight sports seats and even lighter doors.
Lotus has added a switch to vary traction control slip thresholds, and the updated system also sharpens the throttle in Sport and Race modes.
How to spot it? From the matt black front splitter, rear wing, door mirrors and roof panel – oh, and the fact it’s only offered in white, orange, yellow or black.
The new lightweight kit does add cost to the car, says Lotus: £4,500 in all. But it’s done a deal so they only cost £2,400 in Exige S Club Racer guise, hence the £56,900 list price. Pity air con remains a £1,250 option, though – and why not do a deal on the lightweight two-piece brakes, Lotus, rather than leave them as a £1,850 option?
Capable of 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds and a 170mph top speed, the supercharged V6 Club Racer is available to order at Lotus dealers now.
