The free new app, offered for both iOS and Android users, automatically processes the details of the car and instantly gives a guide insurance cost or it.
If it’s tempting, users can then go in and enter more details via the Marmalade website and get a full quote.
Targeting drivers aged 17-24, Marmalade New Driver insurance offers cover for drivers with a provisional licence – and doesn’t change the price once drivers have passed their test.
It covers cars up to 1.4 litres, nine years old or younger.
But although the new Marmalade app uses your smartphone’s camera to auto-enter a car number plate, it’s not the first clever car insurance app on the market.
Confused.com’s app maybe more manual in data entry, but it still allows ultra-fast access to quotes on cars you stumble across at dealers.
The firm says that, once you’ve entered your account’s email address and the number plate of the car, it will give you a car insurance quote on it within 20 seconds.
What’s more, the quotes will be saved in your account so you can go back to them later if you decide that car is the one for you…
