Speaking at the annual Guild of Motoring Writers’ Dinner and Awards in London last night, HRH said the time was right for the revival of a big ‘British’ motor show.
The new London Motor Show event will be held at Battersea Power Station and will complement, rather than compete with, existing events such as the Goodwood Moving Motor Show and Canary Wharf Motorexpo.
Official manufacturer support was vital though, he later told us. “We need the car makers to commit to putting on a show, to give the event the status it deserves.” HRH drew parallels with the old London Motor Show events at Earl’s Court.
“We can’t hold it at Earl’s Court as they’re knocking it down.”
Describing the proposals as “an excellent initiative”, Prince Michael is now hoping commitment can quickly be secured for the event and a firm launch date for a revived London Motor Show agreed.
