LEGO is cool. Rallying is cool. Combine the two, add inspiration from a title-winning 2017 Ford Fiesta WRC rally car, and what do you have? A must-have new addition to the LEGO Speed Champions range.
The new 203-piece M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC rally car kit has been revealed ahead of its market release on 1 March 2018. It will retail at £12.99.
Ford’s teamed up with LEGO to immortalise the M-Sport Fiesta WRC car, which won both the 2017 manufacturer’s title and helped Sebastien Ogier to the 2017 driver’s title. It was first across the finish line in five rallies last year (including a famous win on home soil for Welsh rally star Elfyn Evans).
“It’s hard to think of a more worthy addition to the LEGO Speed Champions range,” said Ford global director of motorsport Mark Rushbrook. “The LEGO Speed Champions series is a fun way to celebrate the success of Ford cars in motorsport.
“We hope it will inspire further generations of car designers, engineers and rally drivers.” If, that is, there are any left over in the shops once all the big kids have snared one…
Like the Fiesta itself, the LEGO Fiesta WRC car is compact: 6 centimetres high and wide, 13 centimetres long. The kit includes a choice of wheels, and two interchagable bonnets: one is equipped with spotlights, for night rallies on the living room floor.
A driver is included as well: they were branded helmet and racing overalls, and can be slotted into the LEGO Fiesta WRC car via the removable windscreen.
But if modernity isn’t for you, you’re in luck. Ford has also rolled out a 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback, which seems to have more than a passing resemblance to the famous model driven by Steve McQueen in Bullitt.
The LEGO Mustang kit comprises 184 pieces and includes a timing board, race graphic stickers and, again, a tiny LEGO driver wearing a race suit. Like the Fiesta, it goes on sale 1 March, again for £12.99.
