Ford’s launching its new Tourneo Connect people carrier in Munich. Today (weather permitting), I’m off to find out whether it’s a cool lifestyle vehicle, or another Motability favourite.
The company’s on a real drive to develop a cool image at the moment – so the move to stick with its van-based people carrier is a strange one.
Ford would like to think of the Tourneo Connect as a slighter cooler Citroen Berlingo – “great for today’s busy lifestyles”, but whether it can pull it off is another matter.
On paper it stacks up well, with prices starting at £14,245 for the five seater. The impressive 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine achieves 50.4mpg and emits 129g/km. I’m keen to find out how well the small engine copes with the size of the Connect.
But overall I want to know if I – as a young person who does the lifestyle stuff that this model is aimed at – whether it appeals to me in any way, or whether it’s just another geriatric people carrier.
First, though, there’s the small matter of a flight from Heathrow. Wish me luck…
