John SurteesMotorsport legend John Surtees has bought Buckmore Park, the famous Kent karting track at which many British motor racing careers began.

Both Johnny Herbert and Jensen Button regularly raced at the MSA-approved karting track, and Lewis Hamilton famously starred in the 1996 Champions of the Future final at Buckmore Park in 1996 – conveniently in front of future McLaren F1 boss Ron Dennis…

Surtees, the only World Champion on motorcycles as well as cars, has now agreed to acquire the business and assets of Buckmore Park through his company, John Surtees Limited.

He’s buying the companies from original owner Bill Sisley, who will stay on as consultant.

There are no big changes planned for the running of the circuit, which dates back to the 1960s, although John Surtees and joint MD Mike Griffiths will now be responsible for future developments at Buckmore Park.
