The 2014 What Car?/JD Power survey has revealed that city cars sit at the top AND the bottom of this year’s ownership study.
The Volkswagen Up has been voted by readers as the best car to own in 2014 – and the soon-to-depart Chevrolet Spark bookends it at the other end of the table as the worst car to own.
Volkswagen’s city car scored an 85.1% satisfaction rating, almost 1% ahead of the next-placed car, the Volkswagen Golf Plus. The Chevrolet, however, could only scrape a meagre 67.6% score.
The Chevrolet was joined by the Alfa Romeo MiTo as being the only two cars to score a satisfaction rating less than 70%…
Volkswagen Group JD Power triumph
What Car? editor Jim Holder adds that seven out of the top 10 cars are German – and the top three, which includes the Skoda Yeti in third, are all made by the Volkswagen Group.
There are six Volkswagen Group cars in the top 10, and four Volkswagen-branded vehicles.
“The Volkswagen Group deserves special congratulations for having six cars in the top 10,” said Holder “It is clearly building cars that have showroom appeal and, even more importantly, deliver in real life.
Cars that perform in customer satisfaction surveys are a great recommendation for car buyers and act as a great barometer to a car’s quality.”
