Jaguar has launched its new XE online configurator tool ahead of production beginning in spring 2015.
And who else to start you off with some options than designer of the XE Ian Callum! We tracked him down at the Paris Motor Show 2014 to get his views.
“For me, there’s only one colour to go for – Bluefire (a £620 option). I think it looks best in that colour – but then, blue is my favourite colour!”
(Legend has it, this is why the design team for the Frankfurt Motor Show 2013 star concept Jaguar C-X17 chose to paint the concept in blue – “they knew I’d like it”, said Callum.
As for wheels, Callum says the two-tone rims worn by the motor show car are, for him, a must-have. “They come in 19-inch and 20-inch design, so you can stick to the 19″s if you prefer.” Callum, of course, would have the £800 20″s.
Callum’s ideal XE: a Paris Motor Show star
Callum’s ideal spec of XE was actually on Jaguar’s Paris Motor Show stand for opening press day, where it drew an enthusiastic response. Sadly, it had gone by day two: it’s needed for an event in London, said Callum, and Jaguar literally hasn’t yet built enough XE to go round. “The demand for them is extraordinary” he said.
Indeed, this is why Callum doesn’t yet have strong views on is the interior. “I haven’t seen enough of the options to decide which I like best yet.” Jaguar hasn’t yet begun series production of the XE so, although Callum is familiar with the style of the interior, the myriad trim choices created by his interior design team have yet to be seen in context.
This is where time with the configurator is so important…
