Jaguar F-Pace crossover SUV confirmed for 2016

JAGUAR F-PACEJaguar has confirmed it will put the C-X17 concept car into production in 2016 – and it will be called F-Pace.

Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar, said: “We received such an overwhelmingly positive response to the C-X17 concept car last year that we just had to make it a reality.

“The Jaguar F-Pace, inspired by the F-Type, represents a perfectly judged balance of style, performance and practicality. It offers a unique combination of Jaguar sports car inspired exterior design, fused beautifully with a thoroughly practical and spacious luxury interior.”

Callum also revealed the target customer for the new crossover by adding: “The F-Pace is our family sports car.”

The firm says it will have “class-leading” interior space – it will be a five-seater – but “exceptional” dynamics will give it a performance focus.

It will boast all-wheel drive and Jaguar’s new All-Surface Progress Control technology for “all-weather, all-surface confidence and safety”; it will use a derivative of the XE saloon all-aluminium architecture and, adds the firm, be built in the same Solihull plant.

Andy Goss, Jaguar Land Rover global sales director, added the firm believes the F-Pace is “the ultimate practical sports car – a car that builds on the marque’s founding ideals of Grace, Pace and Space to become one of the most innovative Jaguar’s we’ve ever developed.”

Goss confirmed that work has already begun on the new Jaguar crossover, too. “The F-Pace has now begun its engineering and development testing programme ahead of the new model going on sale in 2016.”
