Jaguar design chief Ian Callum’s modern interpretation of the Mark 2 Jaguar is to be produced in a limited production run – priced between £350,000 to £375,000.
The ‘Ian Callum Mark 2’ will be produced by Classic Motor Cars Limited of Bridgnorth, with whom Callum worked to give the classic Mark 2 a modern makeover.
The cars will come with a 260hp 4.3-litre version of the classic Jaguar inline six cylinder motor, paired with a five-speed manual transmission and driving 7.5-inch wide rear wheels with 17-inch tyres. CMC has fully reengineered the suspension, brakes and rack and pinion steering (and fitted electric power assistance for the steering).
A buyer-spec’d version of the upgraded interior will also be a highlight, Callum’s design detail stretching as far as redesigning the instrument faces. There’s also a more divisive Clarion 16cm touchscreen infotainment system in the centre console.
Callum Jaguar Mark 2 production ‘by popular demand’
Production of the Callum Jaguar Mark 2 is by public demand, said CMC Chairman Peter Neumark. “The car was only unveiled to the public just over a week ago but has attracted interest from all over the world.
“In my remarks at the launch of the car I said that we would love to build more, but little did I think the response would be so great. Within hours we had received calls from people all over the globe asking if they could buy one.
“We asked Ian Callum if we could produce a limited run and he has said ‘yes.’”
And what does Callum think of his own personal car now being a production car? “I redesigned the car and CMC rebuilt it and reengineered it for my personal use. I wasn’t sure how it would be received but I have been both astounded and delighted with the response.
“I am pleased that a few more cars are going to be built.”
