Honda reveals exclusive new Prelude 2027 Limited Edition

Available across Europe from autumn this year, the Honda Prelude 2027 Limited Edition boasts a unique colour combination

First revealed in Japan, the 2027 Limited Edition features dramatic Premium Crystal Garnet Metallic exterior paint

The return of the Honda Prelude came as something of a surprise, bringing back a name that was last seen 25 years ago.

Now, Honda has announced a special edition of its hybrid-powered coupe, designed to accentuate the car’s sleek styling – said to have been inspired by gliders.

Honda hasn’t tried to be clever when naming the new Prelude, with ‘2027 Limited Edition’ an irrefutable description of what the car represents.

Following a successful launch in Japan, the Prelude 2027 Limited Edition is now making its way to Europe. Orders can be placed from this autumn.

Sadly, there are no Mugen-style performance upgrades for the Prelude. Instead, all the changes are made with style in mind.

The limited-production Prelude is described by Honda as delivering a ‘unique, elevated aesthetic’ that ‘highlights the sleek proportions and sophisticated Japanese craftsmanship’ of its liftback coupe.

Distinctive Premium Crystal Garnet Metallic paint was chosen for the Prelude 2027 Limited Edition, combining deep purple and red tones.

Honda says the hue is ‘engineered to catch the light and accentuate the car’s fluid contours’. It is matched with red inserts on the front and rear bumpers, plus red-painted Brembo brake calipers. Black 19-inch alloy wheels provide some contrast.

Luxurious Bordeaux leather is used throughout the cabin, with contrasting red stitching on the steering wheel, centre console and dashboard.

More red stitching is found on the sports seats, door trims and bespoke floor mats. A Prelude logo is embroidered onto the dashboard for good measure.

Channeling the Prelude’s glider spirit

Underneath the fresh paint and leather, the Prelude uses the existing e:HEV hybrid powertrain. This combines a 2.0-litre petrol engine and electric motors to generate a total of 184hp.

“The characteristics of the Prelude have changed over the years, but what has remained the same is its sportiness and specialty,” said Tomoyuki Yamagami, project leader for the Honda Prelude.

“When you think of a sports car, you think of something sharp, like an F1 or a fighter jet. However, I think the theme of this model is closer to the image of a glider that glides through the air with a sense of freedom.”

At present, Honda has only confirmed the Prelude 2027 Limited Edition will be available in Europe, without mentioning the UK specifically. Fingers crossed this stylish coupe makes its way across the English Channel.
