Daimler has told its senior managers their company cars of the future must have electric-drive capabilities and will be revising the fleet car choice list to eschew pure petrol and diesel cars in favour of EVs and plug-in hybrids.
So it’s out with the company S 500 and in with an S 500 e: no more C 250 BlueTec because they’ll now only be able to choose a C 350 e.
And sorry, Daimler managers, there will now be no company Mercedes-AMGs for you…
The Daimler-wide rollout applies to all senior management levels and follows a trial in Stuttgart that has seen bosses purely driving the B 250 e EV since April 2015.
Harald Kröger, the man responsible for the firm’s E-Drive development, is reassuring his colleagues they’ll be fine: “I can only commend to my colleagues to experience themselves over a longer period the viability of our battery-electric vehicles in everyday use.”
“We are continuing on the path of zero-emission driving with consistency”, added Ola Källenius, Daimler AG board member for Mercedes-Benz Cars Sales and Marketing.
“This is why we are making electric mobility an integral part of the everyday lives of our top management to set an example and to provide a clear role model.”
And for those who are worried about recharging the EVs they’re being steered into, worry not, adds Daimler: a €30 million investment in an on-site charging infrastructure will be part of the initiative too…
