Revealed: the most frustrating place to drive in the UK

Where is the most frustrating place to drive in the UK? Money Barn has collected data based on four key driving annoyances: speed cameras, potholes, slow traffic and delays.

First of all, no surprises when we say that Greater London tops the list for most frustrating places to drive. It ranks relatively high out of 10 for all metrics, with 5.83 out of 10 for speed cameras being its lowest rating. In terms of slow traffic and delays, it chalked up a full 10 out of 10, plus 8.7 for potholes.

Where was the worst for each category, though? Essex, in 12th overall, was rated worst for speed cameras, with 7.12 out of 10. It’s followed closely by Greater Manchester, with 6.38 out of 10.

As for potholes, East Sussex tops the list with a solid 10 out of 10, so watch yourself there. Greater London follows with 8.7 out of 10.

Kingston Upon Hull comes second in the slow-traffic stakes, on 9.85 out of 10. Needless to say, urban areas suffer more when it comes to delays.

For roadworks , Kingston Upon Hull actually comes out on top (or bottom?), with 8.2 out of 10. Yet the town must be hot on potholes, given that it scored zero. East Sussex, with its terrible pothole score, gets only a 1.59 for roadworks annoyance. Following Kingston Upon Hull is Greater Manchester, on 6.92 out of 10.

The lessons here are slightly obvious. Driving in London is the most stressful of anywhere in the UK. Don’t speed in Essex (or anywhere for that matter). And watch out for potholes in Sussex; the scenery might be nice, but the road surface may catch you out.
