Mercedes-Benz has confirmed it is launching an open-top convertible version of the S-Class, which will debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
The new luxury drop-top, which will rival the recently-revised Bentley Continental GT Convertible, will go on sale in 2016 as a super-exclusive pinnacle for the Mercedes-Benz car range.
Shown as an official sketch, the new S-Class Convertible will have four sumptuous seats like the S-Class Coupe it’s derived from: the huge folding roof will be a soft-top rather than a coupe-convertible.
The roof will be fully integrated within the car when down: it will be a fully open design with pop-up rear safety protection rather than permanent rear roll-over hoops.
The teaser sketch suggests Mercedes-Benz has integrated a premium Burmeister sound system offering 3D clarity even with the roof down.
“The new S-Class Cabriolet represents the sixth model of the S-Class family, said Mercedes-Benz in a brief statement, “and is the first luxury four seater cabriolet since 1971.”
