Five gamers will drive the virtual Ford GT for two days – a day longer than the victorious real-life Ford GT racer at Le Mans back in June.
The world record attempt will begin at 1400h CET (1pm UK time) at the 2016 Gamescom show in Cologne, Germany. The gamers will need to race for 48 hours and 1 minute to set a new world record.
The one who races the longest will become the new world record holder.
Ford, whose GT features on the cover of Forza Motorsport 6, is quietly confident of victory: if successful, it says, a presentation will be made to the record-breaking gamer on the Microsoft stand at Gamescom on Thursday.
The firm has already given away a free Ford GT to all Forza Motorsport 6 gamers (a virtual one, that is…) and, last year, helped launch the new video game with a bang at Gamescom: Top Gear’s The Stig drove a specially-liveried Ford Focus RS onto the stage.
Motoring Research was also first to hear news of the next Forza Motorsport release earlier this year at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show: the Lamborghini Centenario will be the cover star of the new Turn 10 Studios release.
