Ford Fiesta is Britain's best-selling car EVER

Fiesta-Best-Selling-Car_1The Ford Fiesta has been Britain’s default chart-topping best-seller for years – and it has now underlined its popularity by becoming the nation’s best-selling car of all time.

4,115,000 Fiestas have now been sold, helping it grab the best-selling title from another Ford, the Escort: that car sold 4,105,961 units during its 32 years on sale.

Tested: Ford’s remarkably efficient Fiesta ST3

Mind you, the record should come as no surprise. The Fiesta has been Britain’s top supermini for 27 of the 37 years it’s been on sale and, since 2009, has been the country’s number one car of all.

To mark the achievement, ford has fitted its iconic FMC1 registration plate to a Fiesta that will appear at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow; Ford is the car supplier for the games and has provided 1120 vehicles to support the event.

Mark Ovenden, Ford Britain chairman and managing director, said: “The Ford Fiesta has gone from strength to strength and today’s car combines style, value, driving dynamics and remarkable technologies such as the multi-award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine.

“It continues to outsell its nearest retail competitor by more than two to one – and that really tells the story of this extraordinary car.”
