Rolls-Royce Phantom Motoring ResearchToday is an important day in the life of Motoring Research. Our new Rolls-Royce Phantom long-term test car arrived.

Sharp at 0845 this morning, an anonymous but extremely large pantechnicon arrived outside my house, and proceeded to unload one very expensive motor car.

Did I say long-term? I meant until next Tuesday (I’m getting Rolls-Royce and Land Rover mixed up – although given the likely fuel bills, I think I’d actually rather keep my Freelander). Still I have a good few miles to cover before then, as I am off to the Somerset levels on Friday morning for a weekend splashing about.

One thing I didn’t do was take the Phantom into our Harpenden office. It is so very, very large and I worry about our tight car park. But my hotel in Wells has promised to give me the keys for the Town Hall car park so I can leave in there behind a barrier, which sounds rather appropriate.

Now all I need to do is try to avoid soiling what is the most brilliant white leather interior I have seen in three decades of motoring writing.
