With new car registrations down 9.3% in September you might think that there’d be a shortage of pre-registered cars for sale. On the contrary, there are currently 15,000 nearly-new cars for sale on Auto Trader, all with no more than 100 miles on the clock. Here are some of the best deals we found.

Suzuki Celerio: £5,990
At this price, the basic but appealing Suzuki Celerio undercuts the Dacia Sandero Access as Britain’s cheapest ‘new’ car. This deal isn’t unique: there are 100 pre-registered Celerio models for sale at the time of writing.
Skoda Superb L&K: £27,990
This Subaru Superb in desirable Laurin & Klement spec has covered a mere 100 miles and yet is offered with a £7,000 discount. A Superb for the price of a top-spec Octavia: what’s not to like?
BMW 320d GT: £32,990
“With only delivery miles and an incredible spec worth over £3,000, this 320d xDrive M Sport GT is nothing less than exceptional value.” Dealer talk, perhaps, but there’s no arguing with a £9,000 discount on a car with just 10 miles on the clock.
Seat Design Mii: £6,995
It’s not the biggest discount on offer, but it equates to one of the cheapest ‘new’ cars on sale. The Design spec (not pictured) offers some appealing upgrades and would normally set you back £10,000.
Volkswagen Move Up: £7,290
The pre-registered bargains aren’t restricted to the Seat Mii and Skoda Citigo, because this Volkswagen Move Up is available for just £7,290. And because it’s a pre-reg you don’t need to wait for delivery.
Vauxhall Corsa Sting: £7,495
The Vauxhall Corsa is one of the most common pre-reg cars for sale on Auto Trader, so you can afford to be picky. You can probably negotiate another few hundred quid off the list price.
Jaguar XJ R-Sport: £55,000
Fancy a full-on gangsta-spec Jaguar XJ R-Sport for a price that looks like daylight robbery? This 20-mile example is available with a £18,352 discount.
Lexus RX 450h: £54,975
A Lexus RX 450h Sport with the optional Premier Pack with Panoramic roof would normally set you back just shy of £60,000. But this dealer is offering the hybrid crossover with a £4,315 saving.
Mazda 3 SE-L Nav: £15,427
This Mazda 3 SE-L Nav demonstrates just how appealing a pre-reg car can be. A £6,168 discount takes the price of this desirable family hatchback into supermini territory.
Nissan 370Z Nismo: £30,950
The Nissan 370Z is getting a bit long in tooth, so much so that you’d have to think twice before splashing the cash on a new one. At £30,950, it’s not exactly cheap, but it’s certainly easier to justify.
Fiat Tipo Easy: £10,000
It has just one mile on the clock, and yet this Fiat Tipo is available with a £3,795 discount. It’s not the last word in excitement and the Easy spec isn’t exactly desirable, but £10k for a family hatchback remains a good deal.
Volkswagen Polo Match Edition: £10,450
There’s a new Volkswagen Polo on the way, which means VW dealers will be keen to shift stock of the old model. The Match Edition includes automatic headlights, rain sensors, electrically folding door mirrors and smartphone connectivity.
Renault Clio Dynamique Nav: £10,500
Another bargain in a desirable trim level. The main advantage of buying a pre-reg is the hefty discount, but there’s the added bonus of immediate delivery.
Nissan Micra Acenta: £11,417
On the flipside, you’re not able to personalise the car – normally a perk of buying new – and you’re also the second name on the vehicle logbook.
Vauxhall Astra GTC: £11,500
Two things strike us here. Firstly, you can still buy the old shape Vauxhall Astra GTC new. Secondly, just look at that discount. Buy a ‘new’ Astra and save the price of a Viva.
Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid: £17,995
This looks like a stonking deal to us. The Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid offers CO2 emissions of just 79g/km and a range of up to 700 miles. With a £2,745 discount, it’s even more appealing.
Vauxhall Insignia Sport Tourer: £16,500
Take one outgoing model, throw in a sizeable pre-reg discount, and what have you got: a ‘cheap as chips’ Vauxhall Insignia Sport Tourer. Bargain.
Subaru WRX STI: £28,890
Pre-reg bargains aren’t limited to superminis, hatchbacks and family wagons. Spend a few minutes on Auto Trader and you’ll discover discounts on the Ford Focus RS and this: the Subaru WRX STI.
Skoda Kodiaq: £32,847
A cancelled order means that this ultra-desirable Skoda Kodiaq in lavish Edition trim is available with a £5,000 discount. A seven-seater with just seven miles on the clock.
Kia Proceed GT-Line: £15,995
It offers the looks of the Proceed GT warm hatch, but for a significantly reduced price. This offer is so good, we had to look twice to make sure it’s correct.
Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio: £59,990
New, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio starts from £61,595, but the dealer ordered this Bianco Trofeo example with £5,315 worth of extras. And yet it comes in under £60k.
Abarth 124 Spider: £24,999
Sticking with the Italian theme for a moment, this Abarth 124 Spider is available for just £24,999, which is about the same price as a Mazda MX-5 Sport Nav with the more powerful engine.
Citroen C4 Cactus
The Citroen C4 Cactus has been on sale for a while, but it still manages to turn heads. This top-spec example is available for an entry-level price. You just have to like white.
Jaguar F-Type: £70,000
Another expensive Jaguar with a hefty discount. New, this F-Type would have cost nearly £84,000, but a pre-reg saving takes it down to £70,000.
Nissan X-Trail: £24,995
This Nissan X-Trail offers the top-spec Tekna trim and a sizeable £6,335 discount. Speaking of Nissan, the Qashqai was Britain’s best-selling car in September, so look out for a number of pre-reg bargains over the coming weeks.
Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT: £55,995
And now for something completely different… If you fancy a performance SUV with some American attitude – not to mention grunt – this is where it’s at. The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT is powered by a 6.4-litre V8 Hemi engine, with enough power to propel it to 62mph in just five seconds. With a £14k discount, you might be able to live with the thirst.
BMW 730d M Sport: £53,992
By our calculations, this BMW 730d M Sport is available with a discount of at least £16,500, which might make things a little easier when deciding between a 7 Series and an S-Class.
Volvo S90 D5 R-Design: £45,000
If the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class are too obvious, you’ll find much to like in the Volvo S90. And that £11k discount makes it all the more appealing.
Volkswagen Touareg R-Line: £37,890
If you don’t want to wait for the launch of the new Volkswagen Touareg you can help yourself to some sizeable discounts on the outgoing model. How about £13k off the price of this 67-plate example?
