A BMW M3 bought by Richard Hammond as part of a Top Gear challenge is going up for auction.
It appeared on the show’s 15th series, first shown in 2010, bought by Richard Hammond and driven by Top Gear’s tame racing driver, the Stig.
The trio were challenged with buying three sports saloons for £5,000 each. Jeremy Clarkson bought a Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth, while James May chose a Mercedes 190E Cosworth and Hammond settled on this BMW M3.
Despite May being declared the winner, remarkably this M3 seems to have escaped largely intact, and in original condition.
The 3.2-litre M3 Evo is finished in Boston Green and has covered 79,235 miles.
It’s to be sold next month at Classic Car Auctions’ sale in Warwickshire, where it’s expected to make between £7,500 and £10,500.
It’s thought to be being sold by a private individual, and not Hammond himself, who has been rumoured to be selling off some of his fleet after Jeremy Clarkson was axed from Top Gear following a ‘fracas’ with a producer.
James May and Richard Hammond have both quit the show in support for Clarkson, as well as executive producer Andy Wilman.
It’s thought that the trio will return on another channel or online service with a new car programme, similar to Top Gear.
