Ducati reveals Senna edition superbike

Racing legend honoured by legendary superbike maker

Ducati has revealed a special edition motorbike at the Sao Paulo Motorcycle Show – in tribute to racing legend Ayrton Senna.

The Ducati 1199 Panigale S Senna will be sold from June 2014: just 161 examples will be available… and it will ONLY be sold in Brazil.

The special Senna Ducatis will be finished in grey with red wheels, a colourscheme chosen by Senna himself back in 1994 just a few weeks before his tragic death.

Senna visited the Ducati factory in Italy to help final preparations of a planned special edition motorcycle, the 916 Senna I: Ducati went on to launch it, limiting numbers to 300. Later 916 Senna II and 916 Senna III editions were also sold.

The latest 1199 Panigale S Senna will be even rarer, though. Ducati is limiting numbers to 161 to reflect the number of F1 Grand Prix races Senna competed in. Each will be individually numbered by an inscription on the top fork clamp.

As with previous editions, Ducati has worked with the Senna Foundation and will once again help contribute to “the charitable and educational goals the Foundation pursues”. Something MR’s happy to link to.

Launched 20 years on from the untimely passing of Ayrton Senna, the Ducati 1199 Panigale S Senna looks set to be highly collectable. What, though, are the chances of a European edition, Ducati?
