Caterham Cars is now officially selling the Seven in the US after signing a deal with distributor Superformance.
The Irvine, California firm will sell several iterations of the high-performance Seven range, including the Seven 480 and Seven 620R.
Caterham Group CEO Graham Macdonald admits the US market has previously been difficult, due to federal homologation rules. The deal with Superformance is a clever one that gets round it, though.
How? By shipping part-built cars to the US, which will be sold as rolling chassis through Superformance’s nationwide dealer network. Customers will then complete the cars themselves. Smart stuff!
“In the last two years, Caterham has significantly broadened its reach internationally,” said Macdonald. “Signing a new official distributor in the form of Superformance in America is a natural extension of how our brand is expanding, rapidly, across the globe.”
Caterham has an unlikely brand ambassador to thank for its new US venture, too – Simon Cowell. He was pictured driving a Seven CSR 260 at his LA home, which the paparazzi delightfully snapped.
Cue great American interest and a hunger for Caterhams that’s now fed by this new deal…
