Mercedes-Benz joins the premium EV market
Despite the seemingly obvious importance of the developing electric car market, the premium German manufacturers have been cautious in their approach. Whilst BMW may offer the i3 and i8, and the Volkswagen Group offers flavours of EV action, the Mercedes EQC marks the first mainstream dedicated offering to rival Tesla.
Given the challenges Tesla are facing, from quality control issues to an unpredictable CEO, the timing of the Mercedes EQC could not be better. How long the cult of Tesla ownership will sustain the American brand may be about to be tested.
In fact the biggest rival to the EQC could be found closer to home. Peter has driven the new Jaguar I-Pace, and found a lot to like about. But is the infrastructure ready to support a major market switch to all-electric motoring?
