2018 Jaguar I-Pace

MR car week in review: is the I-Pace enough to worry Tesla?

2018 Jaguar I-Pace

The I-Pace is Jaguar being bold and taking a risk. Whilst other mainstream European premium manufacturers are still only talking about making bespoke EVs, Jaguar is out there doing it for real. It gives the firm a major headstart on the others, but also ramps up the level of expectation.

Jaguar is also now pitched into direct competition with Tesla. The American startup may have problems – don’t ask about the Model 3 – but it also has a following which borders on religious.

Can the I-Pace persuade those early-adopters to switch allegiances, or will they lure in new EV buyers waiting for a name they recognise? Most important of all is whether the I-Pace delivers on the road. We have an extensive first drive review of the new electric crossover.

This week we were wowed by supercars at the London Concours event, fallen in love again with a wedge-shaped Volvo, and caught up with all the latest news. Don’t miss our visit to the home of Pagani in the UK, including the new Huayra Roadster.
