British car brands top list of dream cars

Jaguar F-Type BritainGiven a choice of over 140 dream cars – from an AC Cobra to a Ferrari 458 – it seems most Brits plump for a Range Rover.

Indeed, Ferrari doesn’t even feature in the top 10 most-desired cars by Brits…

The data has been revealed by Best of the Best, with whom most airport travellers will be familiar: they let people enter a competition at airports (and online, if you like to holiday in the UK), to win a car of their choice.

55,000 entrants were surveyed, and British cars definitely topped the list of dream cars. In descending order, here’s a list of most popular cars as chosen by Best of the Best players:

10: MINI Cooper S JCW

MINI John Cooper Works

John Cooper Works is the tuning division of MINI – and £3 (yes! Just £3) will give you a chance of winning a properly hot MINI Cooper.

9: Porsche 911 Carrera S

Porsche 911 Carrera

An entry from Stuttgart – the Porsche 911 Carrera S is, to many people, the definitive sports car. £9 gives you the chance of driving away in a Porsche.

8: Audi R8 V8

Audi R8

Another German! First seen back in 2003 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, no one ever imagined a mid-engined RWD sports car would prove to be more popular than the Porsche 911. You can be in with a shot of driving away in an R8 for just £10.

7: MINI Cooper S

MINI Cooper S

That’s right – there are two MINIs in the top ten! This one is the standard Cooper S – with a mere 184hp, it’s not the fastest car on the list by any means. But we do like our Minis. Tickets will set you back £2.50 – bargain!

6: Jaguar F-Type V6 S

Jaguar-F-Type-British

The most hotly-anticipated car of 2013? We reckon so. The V6 S is the mid-range F-Type, with a 0-62mph time of 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 171mph. And the ticket price? £8.

5: Mercedes-Benz A220 CDI AMG Sport

Mercedes A-Class

A bit of an odd one this – for £3.50 maybe people gamble with their sensible head on, lured by 64.2mpg combined with the three-pointed star.

4: Range Rover TDV6 Vogue

Range Rover

The first of three Range Rovers to make it into the top four. Tickets for the ‘full-fat’ Range Rover cost just £8.

3: Range Rover Evoque

Range-Rover-Evoque

From the full fat to the baby Range Rover, the Evoque is the crossover SUV that’s shot to the top of all WAG’s wish lists. Tickets for the petrol Si4 Dynamic fetch £5.

2: Aston Martin Vantage

Aston Martin V8 Vantage

Launched in 2005, the Vantage still turns heads today. £9 gets you a ticket for the base-spec V8 – priced normally at £86,080.

1: Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE

Range Rover Sport

Land Rover takes the top spot with its sleek Range Rover Sport – albeit fitted with the sensible diesel TDV6 engine and bottom-of-the-range SE trim. Tickets for the most-popular dream car are charged at £6.
