Ferrari has its Classiche certifications and Mercedes has Brabus Classic – two-year warrantied ‘six star’ restoration for your classic or vintage Mercedes-Benz.
It’s easier to list the marques that aren’t taking classic models and overhauling them to a better-than-new standard these days. We’re a small production line and a boatload of legislation away from full re-manufacturing. Alas, that’s not quite what Brabus Classic is. But it has been saving ailing Benzes for 10years now.
This Mercedes restoration project goes beyond customers bringing in their tired classics for a new lease of life. Brabus Classicalso offers a range of classic Mercedes cars for sale that have been bought in by the company and restored. They even come with a two-year unlimited-mileage warranty.
The very best of the best from Mercedes’ illustrious catalogue are available. Everything from the mythical 300 SL Gullwing to 280 SE Cabriolets and 280 SL Pagodas are currently stocked and ready for sale. You can expect the prices to be in the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, for some of these.
The six-star restoration can go as far as entirely re-building a car from the ground up. It can take up to 6,000 hours and the scope of what can be re-built is virtually limitless. All that can’t be new, is the registration and chassis number.
Speaking of numbers, there is a fastidiousness in keeping them matching. The cars are like-for-like re-builds of what came before, with matching paint, options and even the production number of the engine to match the chassis.
Buyers of one of these cars get luxury treatment, too. A beautifully presented photo album of the car comes with it, including images from a shoot in Brabus’ own studio.
Cars previously given the Brabus Classic treatment have been honoured with concours awards at events the world over. If you wanted proof of a bang-up job in the restoration of your car, that’s got to be it…
Of course, these are technically not brand new cars. Nevertheless, showroom condition and showroom-bought classic machinery, with a warranty, is about as close as we’re going to get to road-legal brand new classic cars.
