The B5 Bi-Turbo Edition 50 will, fittingly, be limited to 50 models, each costing from £86,850; if a coupe is a must, the brand will also make 50 B6 Bi-Turbo Edition 50s.
All boast a 600hp version of BMW’s 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8, with bespoke Alpina turbochargers which can deliver up to 1.2 bar of boost.
With a complementary 590lb ft (800Nm) of torque, it’s good to take the big B5 Bi-Turbo Edition 50 from 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds. Impressively, it also averages 29.7mpg and emits 221g/km CO2.
“Edition 50 is the ultimate expression of the Alpina values,” said Alpina GB brand manager Matthew Stripling (based at the firm’s Sytner Nottingham HQ).
“It combines very high levels of long-term comfort with superb performance that is available from low engine speeds, making it effortlessly fast.
“Add the deep base soundtrack and the feeling of bespoke luxury, and you have a highly engaging car that offers a unique set of attributes for the discerning enthusiast.”
Who can, he adds, drive without worry: like all Alpinas, the B5 Bi-Turbo Edition 50 (and the B6 equivalent) get a two-year BMW-endorsed warranty.
Just don’t expect it to be an easy buy. The 50 cars are for worldwide consumption and the UK allocation is officially described as tiny.
All the better for added kudos in being one of the rarest 200+mph cars in the country…
