Audi has revealed the first official image of the all-new R8 supercar set to debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.Â
The all-new car will be shown in range-topping 610hp V10 R8 plus form, with Audi claiming a top speed of 205mph and 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds.
Built using multimaterial construction that includes a high proportion of aluminium and CFRP, the new R8 is based on the Audi Space Frame platform – also used by the latest Lamborghini Huracan.
Audi’s keen to drive home the link to its hugely successful, multiple Le Mans 24 Hours race-winning motorsport team. “Motorsport is in Audi’s genes,” said Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi board member for technical development.
“With the new Audi R8, our engineers are bringing accumulated racing expertise from the race track onto the road.
“The new R8 plus is therefore the most powerful and fastest series-production Audi of all time.”
Audi will actually offer the R8 V10 in two guises, a ‘regular’ 540hp version and the full-fat 610hp plus. Both versions are quattro four-wheel drive, naturally, and both have a seven-speed S tronic transmission.
The kerbweight has been cut by 50kg, taking it down to less than 1,500kg – a remarkable achievement (although this is the dry weight, sans fluids).
In Germany, sales begin in Summer 2015, with prices starting from €165,000; the V10 plus will cost €187,400.
