Subaru reveals heritage-inspired 2027 WRX and BRZ models

The new Subaru WRX GD25 and BRZ ZC15 made their public debut at the Boxerfest 2026 show, held in Pennsylvania.

Subaru’s two special editions pay tribute to the chassis codes of the WRX and BRZ models when they first arrived in the USA

Two new Subaru special editions have been revealed, celebrating the Japanese marque’s performance heritage in the United States.

Announced at the Boxerfest 2026 show in Pennsylvania, the WRX GD25 and BRZ ZC15 have been designed with true Subaru enthusiasts in mind.

The names for these special editions reference the chassis codes used by the WRX and BRZ models when they first arrived in North America.

Along with the heritage-inspired nameplates, the WRX GD25 and BRZ ZC15 also boast retro color schemes, plus a host of Subaru performance accessories included as standard.

Initial details of both cars were announced at Boxerfest. Subaru will confirm exact prices and specifications before sales start in 2027.

Classic WRX color combo included

2027 Subaru WRX BRZ Special Editions

Subaru launched the first version of the WRX for the United States in 2002: a “Bugeye” GD-specification model based on the second-generation Impreza sedan and wagon.

Only 350 examples of the 2027 WRX GD25 will be made, all finished in the iconic color combination of World Rally Blue with a set of 19-inch gold alloy wheels. Brembo brakes with gold-painted calipers are included, too.

There is also a dry carbon fiber swan-neck rear wing from Subaru Tecnica International, performance-tuned suspension, and a flexible strut brace beneath the hood.

A 271 horsepower version of Subaru’s 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer engine is fitted, with a six-speed manual transmission the only way to shift gears. Recaro seats with black Ultrasuede inserts complete the WRX’s heritage-inspired makeover.

Commemorating Subaru icons

2027 Subaru WRX BRZ Special Editions

The 2027 Subaru BRZ ZC15 is a tribute to the first-generation BRZ, which arrived in 2012 with a chassis codenamed “ZC.”

Painted in exclusive Ceramic White with matte bronze wheels, the sports car’s color scheme was chosen as a nod to the 2020 BRZ tS models. Bronze decals and a black decklid spoiler are included as well.

Production of the BRZ ZC15 will be limited to 300 examples, all mating the 2.4-liter Boxer engine to a six-speed manual transmission.

“Our anniversary edition WRX and BRZ models commemorate the iconic performance heritage and successes of both vehicles in the U.S.,” said William Stokes, car line planning manager for Subaru of America.

“The WRX GD25 is a tribute to our rally-ready sedan and its sports car pedigree, including the wing it shares with the ARA Championship-winning ARA25L.

“Similarly, BRZ ZC15 embodies the best of our long-running, accessible performance sports car, right down to its rear wheel-drive engagement.”
