Brabus reveals 500hp Mercedes S-Class Plug-in Hybrid

Tuning company Brabus has revealed its latest upgrades based on the Mercedes S500 Plug-in Hybrid – with combined power from the V6 petrol engine and electric motor boosted to 500hp.

The catchily-named PowerXtra B50 performance kit coaxes an extra 52hp and 52lb ft of torque from the turbocharged 3.0-litre petrol engine.

This shaves 0.3 seconds off the 0-62mph time of the standard car, reducing it to 4.9 seconds.

The tuners say this is achieved through a plug-and-play kit, which includes special mapping for injection and ignition as well as a small increase in boost pressure.

Prices for the performance kit are yet to be announced, but we expect it to cost at least £5,000.

In addition to the performance upgrades, Brabus is also offering a stainless steel sports exhaust system and a range of exterior upgrades to complete the look.

These include bumpers with integrated carbon fibre, and a choice of alloy wheels from 19 to 22 inches.

And, if your S500 Plug-in Hybrid comes with Airmatic suspension, Brabus can supply a module to decrease its ride height by around 15mm.
